What the course covers
Providers such as TAFE NSW describe the qualification as 15 units — 9 core and 6 specialty. Core topics include:
Providing individualised, person-centred support
Supporting independence and wellbeing
Infection prevention and safe work practices

Specialty units usually focus on ageing, disability, dementia care or community participation, depending on the stream you choose.
Work placement
The qualification includes a mandatory work placement — TAFE NSW, for example, lists 120 hours with a suitable industry employer. Placement is where you practise real care skills under supervision, so plan your time for it.

According to TAFE NSW, graduates work in roles such as aged care worker, home and community care worker, disability support worker, NDIS worker and residential support worker. Employment is never guaranteed — it depends on your skills, availability and employers' requirements.

Individual Support is one of our Fast-track courses, planned to finish within 4 months — which also fits the 4-month study limit on Working Holiday visas. The exact number of weeks, timetable, intakes, fees and placement arrangements depend on the school, and you'll need to complete classes, assessments and placement on schedule.
