Working in Perth and watching your budget? These three CBD spots were highlighted in a March 2026 Perth Is OK cheap-eats guide for meals around $10. Prices change, so check before you go.

1. Hifumiya (Murray Street)

Tucked into Maclean Lane off Murray Street (Shop 2, 100-104 Murray St), Hifumiya is a small Japanese spot that's easy to miss. The guide calls out its small donburi bowls, such as kare, teriyaki beef and miso pork, for under $10, with some at $5.50.

2. Taka's Kitchen (Barrack Street)

A budget favourite at 150-152 Barrack Street. Many dishes are under $10, ramen is $12, and most meals come with a free miso soup.

3. Good Fortune Roast Duck House (William Street)

At 354 William Street, near Northbridge, the guide lists lunch specials such as honey BBQ pork with rice ($9), Taiwanese-style noodles ($10) and herbal chicken with rice ($9).

Getting around for free

Perth's central CAT buses are free, and you can travel free on buses within the Free Transit Zone if you start and finish your trip inside the zone. On trains, the free zone runs between City West, Elizabeth Quay and Claisebrook stations, but you still need to tag on and off with SmartRider or contactless payment. Check transperth.wa.gov.au for current rules.

Why these three?

All three are within walking distance of each other in the CBD and Northbridge, so they're handy if you work or study in the city. They also cover different cravings: a quick rice bowl, a warming bowl of ramen, or a classic roast meat and rice plate. If you're new to Perth, it's a simple way to try a few local favourites without spending much.

Budget tips

  • Bring a reusable water bottle: tap water in Perth is safe to drink

  • Cook a few dinners at home and save eating out for lunch deals

  • Lunch specials are usually cheaper than dinner menus

  • Takeaway can be cheaper than dining in at some places

  • Opening hours and prices change, so check the venue before you go
