Free Events: Sculpture by the Sea & Adelaide Pageant
Looking for something fun that won't cost a cent? Here are two free events coming up in Sydney and Adelaide. Dates are from official event listings, but always check before you go.
Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi (Sydney): until 2 November
The NSW Government event listing shows Sculpture by the Sea running from 16 October to 2 November 2026. Around 100 sculptures line about two kilometres of the coastal walk between Bondi and Tamarama, and entry is free.
Tips:
Go early on weekdays to avoid the biggest crowds
Wear comfortable shoes, a hat and sunscreen, as the walk is exposed
Use public transport: check transportnsw.info for buses to Bondi
Follow any signs about touching or climbing on the artworks
Pack snacks and water, as cafes nearby get busy on weekends
It's a great outing to share with friends you've met on your travels, and the coastal views are worth the trip on their own.
Adelaide Christmas Pageant: Saturday 14 November
The 94th National Pharmacies Christmas Pageant is on Saturday 14 November 2026, according to the official pageant website. Experience Adelaide describes it as a free Christmas event for families, held on the second Saturday of November in the city.
Tips:
Arrive early to get a good viewing spot along the route
Check christmaspageant.com.au for the start time, route and road closures
Bring water and sun protection
Use public transport if you can, as some city streets close on the day
Planning a trip for an event
If you're travelling interstate for an event, book transport and a bed early, as prices often rise close to big weekends. Many Working Holiday Makers stay in hostels, so compare reviews and cancellation policies before you pay. Keep a little budget aside for food and local transport, and check the weather forecast the day before.
Free events can get very busy. Agree on a meeting point with friends in case phone reception drops, and keep your valuables close.
