CHC30125 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care is the entry-level qualification for educators in Australian childcare. It's one of our three Fast-track courses for Working Holiday Makers.

What is CHC30125?

It prepares educators to work in regulated children's education and care services, such as long day care, family day care, preschool or kindergarten. Educators support children's wellbeing, learning and development using an approved learning framework.

CHC30125 replaced CHC30121. Release 2 was published on training.gov.au on 17 July 2026.

What you'll study

The qualification has 17 units: 15 core and 2 electives. Core units include:

  • Supporting children's health, safety and wellbeing

  • Nurturing babies and toddlers

  • Using an approved learning framework to guide practice

  • Providing experiences that support children's play and learning

  • Observing children to inform practice

  • Identifying and reporting children and young people at risk

  • HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting

  • Participating in workplace health and safety

Work placement

You must complete at least 160 hours of work in a regulated children's education and care service. Under Release 2, you must also complete the National Child Safety Training before you start any placement hours.

The qualification itself has no formal entry requirements. Schools and states may have their own checks, so ask before you enrol.

Our Fast-track option

Working Holiday visa holders (subclass 417 and 462) can study or train for up to 4 months in total (visa condition 8548). Course length for our Fast-track options is set by each provider. Weeks, timetables and intakes vary by school, and you'll need to complete classes, assessments and placement on schedule. Read more in our guide to the 4-month rule.
